Basketball at Coláiste Muire has a rich history dating back to the 1960s, when the school's first teams began competing. In recent years, both our boys' and girls' teams have been playing at the "A" level in the Cork leagues. Additionally, we've introduced a second team competing at a lower level in various leagues.
Currently, we field teams across multiple age groups, including Under-19, Under-16, Second Year, and First Year for both boys and girls. Every year, our basketball program engages as many as 150 students, reflecting the school's strong commitment to the sport.
Our school's basketball teams have seen great success in recent years:
Most recently, our First Year boys were crowned Cork champions in March 2024
In 2023, both our First and Second Year boys reached the All-Ireland play-offs, with the First Year boys reaching the All-Ireland plate semi-final in Limerick.
In 2022, our under-16 girls reached the Subway All-Ireland finals, while our Second Year boys made it to the Cork "A" final and represented the Cork region in the All-Ireland play-offs, repeating this feat at the under-16 level in 2023.
Our girls’ under-19 team reached the All-Ireland semi-final in 2019, and our boys' under-16 team won the Cork championship and narrowly missed the Subway All-Ireland schools’ cup final in Dublin.
Our First Year girls' "A" and "B" teams, along with our Second Year girls' and boys' teams, have all made it to the semi-final stage at the "A" level.
